Belonging Reviews

🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 5 Comforting Guitars for Belonging

Belonging_Maria_Bernard

I have often said Maria Bernard is the comfort food of rockstar romance, and Belonging fits beautifully into that mold. I have been looking forward to this one since the day House of Goths was released. While technically I suppose Belonging can stand on its own, I suggest reading House of Goths first. It will give you the chance to really learn why Crispin is the sweet, prickly goth, and why Becky is driving everyone nuts about not hearing from him. I still love the relationship between those two! But while Becky is the perfect “sister” for Crispin, she is not the love/lover he is so desperately seeking (even if he has convinced himself elsewise. )

I didn’t look up my House of Goths review before I started writing this one; honestly I doubt I have looked at it since I submitted it. Ooooh wait, yes I have because the overlords of the review world made me re-write it several times before it met the proper standards. But that aside, I haven’t looked at it in months. The point of mentioning it (before I digressed on that little tangent) is that I wouldn’t be surprised if I mentioned in that one that I wasn’t sure what to make of Crispin, especially in the early chapters of HoG (hehe…I don’t think I have ever abbreviated it before – the Pigg in me appreciates the swine reference. Lol. I’m sure there are a few reading this that will get that little joke, and roll their eyes at my sense of humor.) I can clearly remember that I didn’t care for him much at all in those early Wattpad days. At the rate of a chapter a week, it took a really long time for me to let go of that initial impression. Those times are almost completely erased from memory (*I* can forgive and forget, especially when it comes to fictional characters….) As I recall, by the time I got to the end of HoG, I was almost as verklempt as Becky at his Spring Break plans.

Well, actually, they aren’t really his plans….and that is where this story really begins. Crispin and Becky had met Gwen in a particularly sweet and memorable scene in HoG. One that had a pretty big impact on both Gwen and Crispin. That little story arc brings about another meeting between the two, and leads Crispin to solidify his Spring Break plans after bargaining Gwen’s long longed for trip to England. I feel like I am already falling into spoiler territory, but Crispin’s reasoning for a getaway will break a piece of your little black heart. Gwen’s reasons for not fulfilling her dream that she has planned for so long, might claim a piece as well. But there are so many things in this story that will have light shining through all the cracks this book will put in it.

Belonging is the perfect title for this Gothic fairytale. I don’t think I have words for how much I adore everything about this installment. I only hope we will get Dorian’s story soon, and Keegan’s as well. I am not ready to give up the coolest frat house ever! 😉 Highly recommended. Everything by Maria Bernard is highly recommended for that matter, but I am going to have to say Belonging falls in my top 6 favorites of hers (Hey, it’s not easy to narrow it down! I dare you to read them all and prove me wrong on that point!)

I love that most about Maria’s writing…very endearing characters! I knew this story of Crispin would be awesome. He was such a prickly person in the first book that I could hardly wait to read his story. There just had to be more to him. Crispin embarks on a journey to get away and find himself. What he doesn’t count on is Gwen, his newfound love and soulmate, who tags along on his journey to England. After all, this is a trip she planned for herself but was riddled with too much anxiety to make it on her own. Neither one expects to fall in love. Neither one can imagine how Crispin’s past will be revealed but it shocks their world.

Trust me that this is a story we’ve all been waiting for!
